Route Theme

• The Shudao generally refers to the roads leading to Shu from the ancient Guanzhong area, including the Chencang Road, Baoxiade Road, Tangluo Road, Ziwu Road from Guanzhong to Hanzhong, and the Jinniu Road, Migang Road, Litchi Road from Hanzhong to Shuzhong. It crosses the Qinling Mountains and Daba Mountains, and connects the Guanzhong Plain, Hanzhong Basin, Chengdu Plain and other geographical blocks. Whether in ancient times or today, these ancient roads winding between mountains and rivers are the only way to leave Sichuan from Chengdu or enter Sichuan from Xi’an.
• For the Three Kingdoms, the Shu Road has a more profound significance. The Shu Han regime was based in the land of Bashu, but with the ambition of “not being a partial king”, it always had the dream of “restoring the Han Dynasty” and “returning the capital to the emperor”. Many heroes of the Three Kingdoms galloped on the Shu Road. History staged scenes of joy and sorrow here, and also left many cultural relics for us to reflect on the past.

Main Attractions During the Cycling Journey

Chengdu Wuhou Temple

It is the only temple in China that worships both the emperor and his ministers. It is also a temple to commemorate Zhuge Liang, the prime minister of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period. It has a very important historical position and is currently the most influential Three Kingdoms relics museum in the country. It not only displays the history and culture of the Three Kingdoms period, but also reflects the style and characteristics of ancient Chinese architecture. In addition, the temple also preserves a large number of cultural relics and inscriptions, including clay statues of historical figures of Shu Han, steles, plaques, etc. These are all valuable materials for understanding the history and culture of the Three Kingdoms.

Langzhong Ancient City

Langzhong is a thousand-year-old county located in the land of Bashu. Historically, Zhang Fei, a famous general of the Shu Han Dynasty, served as the governor here and stationed in Langzhong for seven years. In addition to Zhang Fei, the ancient city of Langzhong is also closely connected with many famous generals and celebrities in the Three Kingdoms period. The deeds of famous generals of the Shu Han Dynasty, such as Guan Yu and Zhao Yun, are also richly reflected in the ancient city. The ancient city preserves a large number of complete and ancient Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings. The streets are paved with bluestone slabs, and the architectural style on both sides is consistent, full of classical beauty and charm.

Cuiyun Corridor-Horse-blocking Wall

• The basic features of the horse-blocking wall have been preserved with relatively little damage. It has the characteristics of “three ancients”: ancient road, ancient trees and ancient transportation facilities, so it is known as “the first ancient road in the world”. There are nearly 240 ancient cypresses on the post road, which is about 5 miles long. They have gone through thousands of years. These ancient cypresses have gone through the test of wars, wind and rain, and are still intact, becoming witnesses of history.
• Due to the trampling of horses, vehicles and pedestrians for thousands of years, the bluestone road surface is left with ruts, horse hoof marks and pedestrian footprints, recording traces of history.

Shimen Plank Road

Those who like the history of Qin, Han and Three Kingdoms must know that the plank road was built in the open but Chencang was secretly crossed. The Baoxiadao (Baogukou-Xiagukou) and Shimen plank road are located at Baogukou. Here you can see the infrastructure maniac of ancient China.
